Welcome to Year Two – Whitehead Class

Welcome to Year Two — our class here at Orston, Whitehead Class, is named after Nottingham-born Paralympic gold medal winner Richard Whitehead, whose determination, resilience, and positive attitude inspire us to always try our best and never give up.

Reading Records

The reading records are to help children develop a habit of reading. It is not just for the levelled books from school, any books that your child enjoys reading can be recorded in the reading record. The levelled books from school are useful to track progress of children’s reading fluency and comprehension, but I would prefer them to read books they are interested in and enjoy reading. We are aiming for each child to read at home with an adult at least four times each week – please record this in the reading diary.

Physical Education

Year 2 has PE on Wednesday mornings. Children can wear their PE kit to school on this day.

Forest School

On Mondays, children can wear Forest School clothes to school. We go to Forest School in the afternoon.

Home Learning

Alongside the reading support you give at home, we also encourage children to spend at least 10 minutes each week on NumBots to help build their number skills.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Kind regards,

Mr O’Brien
