VE Day 80th anniversary celebrations

Pupils and staff at Orston took part in a poignant celebration to mark the 80th anniversary of VE day which marked the end of WW2 in Europe. During the day, the children came dressed in red, white and blue and were able to take part in learning looking back at the sacrifices that were made by so many so that we can enjoy the freedom that we have today. Mrs Johnson and the art club made and decorated a Spitfire plane that stood proudly on the front playground while the whole school enjoyed a special VE day picnic on the front playground to the backdrop of WW2 music amid a sea of bunting and Union Jacks.  Our front gates were decorated in red, white and blue reflections from the children on what VE means to them. Furthermore, an impeccable two minutes silence at midday was held with us all paying our respects to those that did not return home. Well done Orston, a time of reflection but also time to enjoy and replicate the celebrations of the generation that gave us our freedom.
